History: Game summary. For the parts with just Duster, Skip chapters 3 and 6, then start chapter 7 at "The Fourth Needle"
Personality:
At the surface, Duster is a quiet, gloomy, shabby man who does not put much effort into his appearance, leading most strangers to dismiss him as someone unimportant. Beneath that, he is a surprisingly skilled fighter and a talented musician. Dig deeper, and you'll find a total sweetheart who is the most devoted friend a person could ask for.

He's a passive fellow, used to doing things others tell him to instead of taking charge himself. Much of it comes from being raised by a strict father, diligently training and following orders. Whenever he made a mistake that lead to a tirade of verbal abuse, he'd try not to react to it. Such as example is near the beginning of the game, when he is sent to retrieve an "important item" from the depths of Osohe Castle only to return with the wrong thing. As Wess yells at him, he steps back nervously, unable to speak up for himself. And it's not like he's exceptionally prone to making mistakes: he overlooks details like most people would, and he takes his time in figuring puzzles out. He's no moron no matter how often Wess calls hims that; but that lack of self-esteem is prominent in the beginning of the story, and he's often not sure of his himself. While he does develop over the course of the story to be more decisive, it takes him a while to decide what he wants, and trying to please everyone makes decisions harder. When he was given the choice of staying with the DCMC or joining Lucas, he thought of how picking one side meant letting down the other, and it led to his band friends rigging a rock-paper-scissors tournament so that he could leave on an adventure without feeling guilty.

He is dutiful son and a loyal friend, which is a wonderful trait to have when the people he interacts with have his best interests in mind. When it comes to people that aren't the healthiest to be around, it leads to problems. During Chapter 2, he wouldn't dare to speak out against his father, and it took Princess Kumatora to step in and tell Wess to cut out his mistreatment of Duster. He's a bit of the Distressed Damsel of the narrative, being the one party member held captive by the enemy and needing to be found/rescued a few times, but he has complete faith in his friends and that things will turn out alright.

Which leads us to his optimism. His default facial expression and appearance makes him look downcast about everything, but he has incredible hope that despite the suffering and terror the characters go through, in the end, it will be all worth it. When asked if he was an unlucky or lucky person for getting kidnapped right after being rescued by Mr. Saturns, he states that they're all lucky. The party is together again. When the Dark Dragon wakes and an apocalyptic scene ensues, he's calm when it's over and happy they have a new world to live in.

Despite how much he believes in others, he doesn't have a lot of faith in himself. He's one of the strongest fighters, an incredible musician, and when fighting solo, he relies on strategic use of his battle tools. Yet he'll downplay his abilities, such as when he first becomes playable: pointing out first that he has a pronounced limp, but it's okay, he'll do his best! When first asked to Wall Staple a cliff so Flint could scale it, he admits that he's unsure if he'll be able to do it properly in a real life scenario, but he does it anyway. If he's asked to do something, he will obey though he won't be surprised if it doesn't work out. Knowing he was of some use and that he helped is good enough for him. Becoming a celebrated musician helps him understand that he's more amazing that he initially believes, though he's not one to boast about his skills. He doesn't go around telling everyone that he's the musician known as "Lucky": it takes a dedicated fan to recognize him on the street before he admits he's that same person.

Duster is a humble, polite, compassionate man, talking gently with Lucas, who was grieving over the recent loss of his mother, and befriending the child-like Mr. Saturns to the point where he understands their quirky speech and behavior almost perfectly. The day after Hinawa dies, he's the first person to approach her husband to offer his condolences. It's difficult for him to say something mean spirited, and even his sole two jabs at the main villain took a whole game of evil misdeeds to say. Despite his celebrity status by the end of the story, he remains just as quiet and introverted, preferring the company of a few friends to hundreds of fans, though the extra attention is amazing, and he would never give up the chance to perform and make people happy. He likes pleasing people, friends and authority figures alike, and he needs people to stand up for him at times. In return, he'll defend them with his life.

Inventory: Some snacks, a Thunder Bomb, and his Thief Tools. (Note: the Thief Tools, when used in battle, cause status effects, but I can just retain their flavor descriptions. For example, a Scary Mask won't lower Attack, but it would be be frightening, and characters can react to the sound of a Siren Beetle as they desire instead of losing a turn. The question I have is the Wall Staples - they are used to pin down enemies and to scale sheer cliffs. What would happen to the 10 that Duster has in his inventory?)

Memory - Club Titiboo

[This has to be the gaudiest, 50's-esque building interior ever. Checkerboard carpet, the smell of greasy food and cigarettes, and tired miners exiting the building late at night. To a band of guys backstage, this his home. It's after another fantastic concert, everyone's gone home with a smile on their face, and their newest song was a hit. One of the musicians slaps the bassist on the back, who looks a lot like Duster with nicer clothes and a wig.]

They loved you, Lucky! What did I tell you?

[Lucky laughs - it's Duster's voice, confident and relaxed. ] You know, I almost didn't realize everyone else in the room. Just me and my bass, you know?

[Another one opens the door to his room, and just before he steps in, he turns to the crew.] Better be careful next time, 'cause your fingers fly so fast, you'll end up tearing up that bass in the middle of a concert!

Yeah, you know what? Someone like you deserves a high quality bass. We're gettin' you a new instrument for your anniversary!

[Duster smiles nervously. It's too much for someone that's just joined the band. It feels like a lot. As he limps down the hallway, one by one his friends get into their rooms. His is at the end, near the largest of the waitresses' bedrooms.]

Call to Adventure

[He's leaving the club. He doesn't remember who he is, but this boy recognizes him. And - strangely enough - he feels like he knows him back. It's been settled: he's taking the boy, his dog, and the young woman named Kumatora to the hiding spot that might hold the secret to his past.

But this means he's leaving the band.

With a heavy heart, he follows the group towards the front entrance, but pauses as he hears music coming from the stage area.]

What is it?

...Someone's on stage?

[They let him be as he listens to his bandmates send him off.]

Saturn Valley

[Duster, Kumatora, Lucas, and Boney are all incredibly tired. This...purple hotspring in this peaceful valley is just what they need after a long day of fighting off Pigmasks, Fassad, losing Phrygia, and generally having a stressful day. The three humans and one dog sing into the warm waters, coffee in hand.]

What's in here? [Lucas sloshes the half mug of coffee that remains.]

Dunno. Never asked, but I never really understood them. Duster? You're the guy that can read them. What are they saying?

[Duster looks at the small creature poking at the pile of equipment piled onto the grass nearby.]

It looks like it's just normal coffee to them.

It sure isn't normal human coffee.

[The Mr. Saturn makes a small noise, then walks away.]

I think you insulted him.

[Kumatora huffs and sinks into the water. They rest in silence for a few minutes. Lucas is the first to speak up.]

Just three more to go...huh. It's weird thinking that I've already come this far. [In terms of fighting against the Pigmasks or in terms of how he's grown? Duster keeps that thought to himself.]

...You're a brave kid, Lucas. Take it from me. I remember you when you were small, and you've done a lot for you, okay? I don't know if I'd even be here if it wasn't for you.

[The boy smiles, and his dog paddles next to him to rest his head on his shoulder. Kumatora leans in and whispers to Duster.]

Thanks. I think he needed to hear that.

[In one rare moment, Duster visibly smiles.]

Initial	Symbiosis	Reduces research time on a project to three months.
Five Months	Teleportation	Teleports to a previously visited and non-crystallized location.

One Month	The Toy Bag	Unlocks a magical bag in which virtually anything can be stored.
Two Months	Christmas Spirit	Inspires trust in others and spreads a joyful atmosphere around.
Three Months	Jingle Bell	Shrinks self to go through chimneys or otherwise tiny passages.
Four Months	Coal Lumps	Harmless attack that hurts the target's confidence, pride and motivation.
Six Months	Holy Advent	Doubles the effectiveness of this Job on December.
Nine Months	Security Elf	Summons a Tarutaru-sized security elf to protect the character.
One Year	Letter to Santa	Capability to gift what is written on letters sent to the character.

Limit Break:16-hit Combo
Duster attacks one enemy and, at a musical rhythm, hits it 16 times with powerful kicks. One of those attacks has the potential to be a critical hit, and if it happens, the enemy is knocked out of the battlefield.

Fourside Newspaper Discussion (closed to Lucas)

The day after Lucas shows Duster a book about the Runaway Five, Duster wakes up in the afternoon. It's not unusual for him, but he has to talk to Lucas. He spent the rest of his waking hours looking over a newspaper he received from the bar after asking for something specifically written about Porky in the era before Tazmily.

He skips breakfast and heads straight to the gardens, where he's sure Lucas is, carrying the newspaper with him.

	Lucas ☆ pullsneedles ( Mother 3 ) Duster's friend from the Nowhere Islands. He still is protective of the young boy, though he is grateful that there's someone he knows that can explain what Milliways is and push him to meet the others.

	Enzo Matrix ☆ a1enzo ( Reboot ) Enzo comes from a world so technologically advanced that Duster blanks out every time he explains how his world works. But he seems like a nice guy, and they play music together. Enzo's not exactly at the professional level Duster is at, but he's got talent.

	Autor ☆ herr-bookman ( Princess Tutu ) Another of Lucas' friends. Plays piano and asks a lot of questions.

	Sasha Nein ☆ for_good_taste ( Psychonauts) A psychic scientist who is good friends with Lucas, and gets a long with Duster. He's curious about how the Nowhere Islands function and if it's possible to retrieve lost memories without using the Egg of Light.
